Hi Cortana: Who is a sunny day?
Do you know Leonardo DiCaprion? You probably know him for his roles Titanic, Wallstreet wolfand Initial. Not because of his role New Lassie, his first appearance as an actor. The same can be said of many talented actors and actors. Their names became household because of the groundbreaking or incredible performance in the now well-known work that elevated them to fame. Unless you’re a tough fan of one actor, many of the early roles of actors aren’t talked about in the same conversations as their best known ones. This makes perfect sense. At the same time, early work is not automatically inferior to popular work. Sometimes early acting and roles are even more entertaining in different ways.
Jen Taylor is a voice actor with over 20 years of experience and best known in the sound and gaming community for her roles in Cortana Hello and Microsoft Virtual Assistant, Princess Peach and Toad from the Nintendo Game Library and Zoey Left for the dead. It makes sense that most of the questions he is asked in many conferences, speech panels, and interviews relate to these roles from which his voice is best known.
It might also surprise you, knowing that his first role as a voice actor, and perhaps one of his best of all time, in 1997 grew into his own legend in a community in such a narrow area that he has hardly ever had any questions about it. This is the story of how Cortana’s voice was equally loved nearly ten years earlier in a role that only took six hours to record.
Now hitting …
Living at the crossroads of sports, comedy and charm, the Backyard Sports game series was the best way for young children to learn to play sports video games without complicated controls and characters their peers. Originally created and developed by Humongous Entertainment in 1997 for “Backyard Baseball” for PC and Mac, Backyard Sports continues to release more than 50 titles, including sports such as baseball, football, soccer and basketball. Each played the same neighborhood children, each with their own strange insights and skills.
Some players were really good at football but couldn’t beat baseball. And they will definitely tell it to you. Before, during, and after the game, you heard each child scream and scream random phrases that fit their personalities. From “Hey, we want the dough, not the broken ladder, you know!” To Kimmy Eckman, who would eat candy bars after a big play; this really set Backyard Sports apart from other sports games aimed at under-13s.
The more you play the game and bet on the season mode, the more you will start to notice the lines and jokes that your team shoots while on the field of play. Unable to beat EA Sports in graphics or gameplay, Humongous Entertainment went the route of humor and relativity for the kids. When the starting left field player constantly repeats the phrase “I score a goal!” when he comes to the bat, it makes you want more and more afternoons at Steele Stadium.
… to Melonheads
It was not uncommon in the Clinton administration that the phrase “Friends of Hi-De-Ho Sports!” come to explode more than 20 times a day through 90s computer speakers with finger holes (if you’re real, you know). Every legendary sports game just goes beyond having fun. Sounds and dialogue make a good game great. The voice you hear the most in any sports video game is the broadcast team. Mechanically brilliant sports games have made many people want more when the announcers are hollow and don’t add to the glow of the game, but the exciting duo in the booth can change the silent gaming experience, which is sticky and draws the player constantly back I want one more game before bed.
Just as everyone in Backyard Sports had the same set of players (in addition to the professional players added from 2001), the lifelong announcer covering all sports under the digital sun was Sunny Day. Day appeared in the first game, Backyard Baseball, and was in every game, a play-by-play commentator. Just as Backyard Baseball was Day’s first appearance behind microphone playing games, it was also Day’s voice actor Jen Taylor’s debut in an entertainment video game.
Underground! Well, oh!
“Jen, you make all sorts of weird noises. I guess you can get paid for this. You should be a voice actor,” one of Taylor’s friends told him after graduating from North Western. “He wanted to stay in Seattle, where he grew up.” So much of anyone’s career in a sound show depended on the place at the time, “says Taylor. a voice agent to help me with my audition performances. We had to go to the office, record something, and then they sent it away. ”
Just as location matters to sound work, during this time in Seattle, exciting chemistry was brewed in Seattle. The Mariners made it to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history in 1995, and the city loved the madness associated with getting a winning baseball team. Humongous Entertainment was a small video game studio nearby that planned to launch a baseball video game for kids in the late ’90s, probably inspired by the city’s major league team. He wanted to have a fun game with the broadcast team that could explain what was happening on the playing field.
– As I remember in the experiment, they made me read the lines that would end up in the game. Many lines were like “this is who I am and this is this”; it was self-evident what I had to read, ”Taylor recalls. Not only was Taylor hired for the role of Sunny Day, she was also selected as the third in Backyard Kids: Maria Luna, Luanne Lui and Billy-Jean Blackwood.
In the recording structure of each session, Taylor read the order of the game and then he read all the things in a similar class, such as team names, with different inflections. “Presenting a game like this takes less time than people think. They would give me two sessions a day to record. The first sunny day because there was a lot to say on a sunny day. Then I would make another child’s voices. In all games, it lasted a total of four to six hours. That’s it, ”Taylor explains. “I was glad this opportunity came. I was just glad someone paid me for my vote, ”Taylor said excitedly.
Some of Sunny Day’s best home visits:
- That ball is out of here, leaving nothing but a paper web!
- Lick the stamp and hit it on the puppy because the ball is out of here!
- And he crushes one towards South Africa!
- Go, Sputnik, this puppy is going into orbit!
- Take a better picture now because this ball is out of here and it won’t come back!
- This is no old home, we have a big slam! (GS)
- It goes, goes … gone! It’s big, El Grande, grand slam Homer! (GS)
As for the Sunny Day character and personality, Taylor sees a lot of similarities between who she is and who Sunny is, ”I just remember how charming I thought she was. He was kind, me, ”Taylor laughs. “He was smart, nerdy in a good way and had a great attitude towards the game. They always told me he was very involved in the game. This is a really serious game for a sunny day. ”
Once the game was all recorded and released, as part of Backyard Baseball’s marketing, Sunny Day was shown on screen in Mariners for far too long after the game was released. – This is a crazy moment for me as an actor. My friends were playing and suddenly Sunny Day came to the jumbotron saying “This is a sunny day”. Welcome to Mariners! ‘It was the first time I was like,’ Wow! Everyone saw something I did, ‘Taylor recalls.
Since most are familiar with Taylor’s voice and career associated with her role in Cortana, she has only ever had two questions about her work at Backyard Sports. “Before this interview, I first watched a game video of Sunny Day because they never sent me a game and I love him. Sunny Day is a charming character and I’m glad she’s being celebrated, ”Taylor concludes.
