Want to get started with YouTube, but don’t know how to upload your very first video? If you recorded with your smartphone, you can upload your video directly to your YouTube channel from your iPhone or Android device. Here’s how.

How to upload video to YouTube on mobile

To upload a video to YouTube from your iPhone or Android phone, you will need the official YouTube app on your phone. Download and install the app on your iPhone Where Android phone, if you haven’t already.

Launch the YouTube app on your phone and sign in to your YouTube (Google) account. Then, in the bar at the bottom of the application, select the “+” (plus) sign.

Press the "+" option in the YouTube app.

YouTube will open a menu “To create”. Select “Download Video” from this menu.

To note: If you want make a short YouTube, press the “Create a short film” option. Or, if you want to stream a video, tap on the “Go Live” option.

You will now see a “Download” screen which displays all the videos on your phone. Here, press the video you want to download to YouTube. Then when the video starts playing, tap “Following” in the top right corner of the app.

To note: If YouTube asks to access your phone’s gallery, tap the “Allow Access” option so that it can access your videos.

You are now on the “Add details” screen. Here, tap on the field “Title” and enter a title for your video. Tap “Add Description” and add a description to your video.

Then press “Public” to choose who can watch your video on YouTube.

On the screen “Define visibility” that opens, select one of these visibility options for your video:

  • Public: This allows anyone on YouTube to watch your video.
  • Unlisted: With this option, only people with whom you share your video link can watch the video.
  • Private: Only you and the people you choose can watch the video.

If you want to post your video on YouTube at a specific time, then on the same “Set visibility” screen, press the “Schedule” option.

Tap the date and time drop-down list and choose a date and time for your video to be output. Once done, tap on the back arrow icon in the top left corner of the app.

Specify the expected release date and time of the video in the YouTube app.

Back to the “Add Details” screen, tap “Location” and add a location to your video. If you want add your video to a playlist, tap the “Add to playlists” option.

Then, in the top right corner of the app, select “Next”.

You have now reached the page “Select audience”. Here you will define who your video is made for.

If your video is intended for children, select the option “Yes, it is made for children”. Otherwise, select the option “No, this is not for children”. To verify YouTube page to find out if your video is considered designed for children.

If you choose “No, this is not for children”, specify other options by pressing “Age restriction (Advanced)”. Then, in the top right corner of the app, tap “Download”.

Select the audience for the video on the "Select audience" page in the YouTube app.

Your video will start uploading to YouTube. When it’s done, you can find your uploaded videos in the Library> Your Videos section of the YouTube app.
