Aleyda Solis sent a Twitter survey last week after Google released its proposal link spam update and nofollow vs rel Sponsored Attributes. The survey showed that SEOs are very different about how they handle or do not handle sponsored links.

One-third said they follow links (do not add any nofollow or rel-sponsored attributes to the link. Another-third said they simply use rel nofollow. The last-third said they are likely to switch to rel-sponsored those Sponsored Links.

Keep in mind that even though Google’s guidelines say you must use a nofollow or sponsored attribute, you don’t have to use one on top of the other.
