Updated July 21 at 8:11 p.m. ET: After posting this story for the first time, Amazon provided the following statement confirming that it is reviewing two customer service reports related to 3,090 failures due to New world:

We have two customer service reports on this that we’re tracking, and a few high GPU usage reports from the forums, which is consistent with a graphically rich game. We provide user selectable settings to reduce graphics, which reduces GPU load by the same amount, if the player so chooses.

The original story is below.

Amazon Games’ new MMO closed beta New world has been marred by reports that the game has been blocked Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards from some players. In a statement shared on Wednesday, Amazon said it saw “no indication of widespread problems with the 3090,” but will release a fix anyway.

Here is the full statement from Amazon shared with The edge Wednesday:

Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of people played the New World Closed Beta, with millions of hours of play in total. We have received a few reports of gamers using high performance graphics cards experiencing hardware failure while playing New World.

New World makes standard DirectX calls provided by the Windows API. We haven’t seen any indication of widespread issues with the 3090, either in the beta or during our many months of alpha testing.

It’s safe to play the New World Closed Beta. To further reassure players, today we will be implementing a patch that limits frames per second on our menu screen. We are grateful for the support New World receives from players around the world, and we will continue to listen to their feedback throughout the beta and beyond.

However, the language of Amazon’s statement does not completely rule out that the game could cause problems. In particular, the wording “no indication of widespread problems “(emphasis added) suggests there might be problems, and since we don’t know how well Amazon defines” generalized, “we can’t be sure how many cards the company has determined. may be affected.

Most brick cards appear to be made by EVGA, according to reports from a thread on the New world subreddit. And problems with EVGA cards can arise before the beta, because a player on the New world forum said they had an EVGA card dice on them during the game’s alpha and one dice during this beta.

EVGA did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but a representative from the company Told Windows Central this “at the moment we are dealing with specific problems, if it is a really confirmed problem we will inform you and inform you in our EVGA Forums on our website. ”But if you have a 3090 card of some sort, you might want to wait to play the game until the patch from Amazon is released just in case.

the New world the closed beta runs until August 2. If you want to try it out, you can pre-order the game to receive an invite or register for the option to access it through this page. The game is slated for release on August 31 due to many delays.
