It is not a law on who is responsible for redress. If it is still under warranty, the manufacturer or retailer should repair it, but after that you at least now have the guarantee of having access to a replacement part. You’ll probably have to buy it, and you might have to pay someone to install it if it’s a complicated internal part, but at least you should be able to get hold of it.
