Katy Perry is launching a non-fungible token (NFT) series with Theta Labs, a blockchain video streaming platform, as she joins the growing ranks of artists and celebrities by tapping into the crypto craze.
The pop star, who announced the launch in a Tweeter Wednesday, will release digital collectibles that will feature her upcoming gaming residency at the Resorts World Las Vegas hotel starting in December 2021. She said she would also have a minority stake in Theta Labs through his artistic agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
“I am both excited and curious to launch my very first NFTs later this year with the Theta Network,” said Perry. “This is a unique new opportunity to connect with my fans around the world, even if they’re not with me in Las Vegas. I can’t wait to dive with Team Theta on all the exciting and memorable creative pieces. , so my fans may own a special moment from my residence which is both a digital collectible and an IRL [in real life ] live.”
NFTs are digital assets that are supported by the same blockchain technology as crypto coins and are all the rage in the entertainment and art industry. When people buy NFTs, their token is stored digitally forever and cannot be changed. In addition, each NFT is unique, so they offer a way to verify the authenticity and ownership of a creative work, for example. But they’re also tradable, just like real-world collectibles.
Perry is one of the most successful pop stars of recent years, with nine Billboard 100 number one singles and numerous accolades to his name, including five American Music Awards and at least one Brit Award.
Theta Labs has its own blockchain called the Theta Network and has collaborated with other celebrity projects in the past. For example, the company live streamed the launch of one of Elon Musk’s SpaceX rockets, which it ad on their website.
“Working with a global icon like Katy Perry over the next year marks an important inflection point in the history of the Theta network and a big step towards the global adoption of the Theta blockchain,” said Mitch Liu, co -Founder and CEO of Theta Labs. “With the help of CAA and Katy’s leadership team, we are leading the way to reach far beyond crypto enthusiasts to millions of music, media and entertainment fans around the world.”
