In this session our host Guy Bartram associated with Romain Decker (Staff II Technical Product Manager) to discuss the new features of the NSX Migration Tool in Cloud Director 1.2.1.
Because NSX-v has been replaced by its successor, NSX-T takes precedence over VMware Cloud Providers. In this session, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the core features that enable cloud service providers to perform the upgrade and the new assessment mode — which can help you determine your organization’s readiness virtual server centers (VDC) supported by NSX-v.
Not only is this information necessary to understand which VDCs in customer organizations can move seamlessly and plan accordingly, sharing the assessment with VMware will also help us prioritize the next version of tool migration based on the gaps reported to us.
Reasons to move from NSX-v to NSX-T
VMware has announced the decommissioning of NSX-v and plans to expand the NSX-T Data Center. NSX-T provides best-in-class network and information security for your infrastructure, simplifies automation, and provides a public cloud service experience with VMware Cloud Director.
Have you set up migration readiness with NSX Migration for Cloud Director?
The migration of NSX-v and NSX-T is the pinnacle of the mind for most VMware cloud service providers. To make your migration a success, VMware NSX Migration for VMware Cloud Director 1.2.1 has introduced a new feature that allows you to configure the cloud services availability of your organization’s virtual data centers (VDCs) with NSX-v support.
The evaluation mode utilizes non-disruptive APIs to detect features used in all VDCs supported or configured by NSX-v and analyzes the suitability of each VDC for migration. The most important driver is to enable cloud service providers to analyze their current assets and understand their ability to perform an automatic transition from NSX-v to NSX-T with current versions.
Evaluation mode reads only the configuration (no changes to the environment) requires only VMware Cloud Director API (any version 10.x is supported).
We’re committed to improving your transfer experience, so it would be great to find out if the assessment method helped you on your journey. This is your opportunity to become part of our growing community. Your contributions will shape the future of NSX-T integration with VMware Cloud Director, impact the product roadmap, and release new features.
